Introduction to WEBppliance

Your Web hosting services are provided by a product called WEBppliance™. WEBppliance is a software application designed to automate the deployment and management of Web-hosting services and Web sites. WEBppliance is typically installed on servers maintained by service providers; it is the powerhouse that enables you to manage your Web site and the Web services you need for your organization.

WEBppliance is packaged with core Web hosting services and features that allow you, as Site Administrator, to manage a range of services for your organization. These services include Web site management, FTP access, email management, and backup and restoration capabilities for data.

WEBppliance offers two product options.

• WEBppliance Basic. WEBppliance Basic is designed to support a single organization’s management of a Web server and one or more Web sites.

• WEBppliance Pro. WEBppliance Pro is designed for professional hosting of multiple companies on a single Web server.

• Note: The following services are unique to WEBppliance Pro.
  
  * Anonymous FTP
  * Majordomo
  * Bandwidth usage reports
  * Tomcat 4
  
  Sections in the online Help that refer to these services display the phrase "if available" to indicate that the service is only available in WEBppliance Pro. If you need the service, please contact your service provider to upgrade to WEBppliance Pro.

Control panels

WEBppliance provides two separate Web-based user control panels for Site Administrators and User Administrators:

• The Site Administrator control panel

• The User Administrator control panel (if available)

Each control panel allows easy access to key features and streamlines common configuration and administration tasks.

• Note: WEBppliance and the Site and User Administrator control panels are designed to work with Internet Explorer 5.0 and higher and Netscape 6.2 and higher. Using other browsers might produce unpredictable results.
